GREAT BAY--Minister of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure Patrice Gumbs has announced that the Ministry of VROMI is moving forward with cleanup, safety and maintenance works in the beach and Boardwalk area, including the removal of concrete slabs, debris and other materials connected to previous disposal or temporary works.

The Minister said the removal of these materials forms part of ongoing efforts to clean up public spaces, improve safety and respond to concerns related to waste, debris and the proper use of shared areas. The work is also connected to broader efforts to keep the beach and Boardwalk accessible, orderly and safe for residents, visitors, businesses and pedestrians.

Minister Gumbs said the Ministry is also working through issues affecting areas of the beach and Boardwalk, including the section near the courthouse. Additional works are planned to help restore certain areas and address safety and maintenance concerns. He noted that the timing of these works is being considered carefully to reduce disruption to nearby businesses, the public and areas linked to cruise and visitor activity.

Works are scheduled for Friday, June 5, in and around the beach and Boardwalk area. Activities are expected to include the placement of temporary barriers or other safety measures, the removal of remaining items and general cleanup work. Members of the public are asked to be aware of the planned activities, respect any restricted areas and follow instructions or signage placed on site.

The Minister also reminded the public that the Boardwalk is not an unrestricted commercial zone. Commercial activity is only permitted in designated areas, and persons should not place items, conduct unauthorized business or misuse the public space.

Gumbs urged residents, businesses and visitors to respect the rules governing the Boardwalk and to help keep the area available for everyday public use. He said maintaining the Boardwalk requires cooperation from government, business operators and the wider community.

The Ministry of VROMI will continue to monitor the area and carry out necessary interventions to support public safety, proper access, environmental upkeep and the responsible use of one of Philipsburg’s most visible public spaces.
