GREAT BAY--Nation Opportunity Wealth (NOW) Member of Parliament (MP), Lyndon Lewis, has submitted a letter via the President of Parliament, Mrs. Sarah Wescot-Williams to the Prime Minister, Dr. Luc Mercelina for consideration of having the national flags at government buildings flown at half-staff on the day of the funeral of Louis Lambert Richardson, affectionately known as “Porkchop.”
The request seeks to honour Richardson’s significant contribution to Sint Maarten’s culture, particularly through his long standing love for and participation in Carnival as well as his contribution to sports and local music over many decades.
“Porkchop brought an unforgettable energy, laughter, and joy to our community. His presence during Carnival was something people looked forward to each year, and he will remain a cherished part of our cultural history,” MP Lewis stated.
MP Lewis explained that flying the flags at half-staff would serve as a meaningful symbol of respect and appreciation for Richardson’s contribution, while expressing solidarity with his family, friends, and all those mourning his passing.
“Our culture is shaped by individuals who bring people together and leave lasting memories across generations. Porkchop’s vibrant spirit touched many lives, and this gesture would acknowledge the place he holds in the hearts of our people,” MP Lewis added.
Through the letter, MP Lewis has asked the Prime Minister and by extension the Council of Ministers to give the proposal favourable consideration and, if approved, arrange the necessary coordination for the tribute on the day of the funeral.
MP Lewis once again extended his heartfelt condolences to Richardson’s family, friends, and the Carnival community.
“May his loved ones find strength and comfort in the memories he leaves behind. His laughter, spirit, and contribution to Sint Maarten will never be forgotten.”
