GREAT BAY--The Sint Maarten Aquatic Federation (SMAF) national swim team is set to represent St. Maarten at the CARIFTA 2026 Aquatics Championships in Martinique, where the island’s young athletes will compete against top swimmers from across the Caribbean.

The championships will take place from April 3 to April 8, 2026, and will bring together competitors from 20 Caribbean countries in one of the region’s most important developmental meets for young aquatic athletes.

Representing St. Maarten this year is a 10-member national team made up of five boys and five girls: Azaiah Roper-Duzon, Holdson Jean Fort, Kjeld van der Meer, Declan Boyd, Emmbriel Flanders, J’aishaa Jeffers, Victoria Otto, Caithlyn Challenger, Lois Geerdink, and Aiyana Bourne.

SMAF noted that both Victoria Otto and Holdson Jean Fort are new members of the national team, marking an important milestone in their swimming development as they make their CARIFTA debut representing St. Maarten on the regional stage.

The swimmers will compete in a range of aquatic disciplines, giving them the opportunity to test their training, skill, and determination against some of the best young talent in the Caribbean.

Traveling with the team are coach Dwight Vermeer and delegation leader Claudia Connor, who will provide guidance, support, and leadership throughout the championships on behalf of SMAF.

All pool events will be held at the Lamentin Aquatic Center in Martinique.

The CARIFTA Aquatics Championships is widely regarded as a key developmental competition for young swimmers, providing valuable international exposure and helping athletes prepare for higher levels of competition in the future.

SMAF said participation in events such as CARIFTA remains important for the continued growth of aquatic sports in St. Maarten, while also giving the country’s athletes the chance to gain experience, build confidence, and proudly represent the island at the regional level.

Supporters, family members, and fans are encouraged to follow the team’s journey and stay updated on results and performances through social media, including Instagram at @cariftamartinique2026 and @liguenatationmartinique, and on Facebook via CARIFTA Aquatics Championships 2026 and Martinique Swimming League.

SMAF extended best wishes to the team as they prepare to compete and represent St. Maarten with pride in Martinique.
