Connor expresses pride in seven years of service as he transitions from NRPB to VSA

GREAT BAY--Outgoing National Recovery Program Bureau Director Claret Connor has expressed pride in the work accomplished under his leadership as he prepares to be sworn in on Wednesday, August 5, as Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labor, VSA.

“It has been a privilege to serve as Director,” Connor said. “I am proud of what the organization has accomplished and grateful to everyone who has contributed to that work over the years. I leave knowing the Bureau is well positioned to continue delivering on its mandate.”

Connor has led the NRPB since its establishment in January 2019, overseeing its development into an experienced implementing agency responsible for managing a broad portfolio of recovery and resilience projects financed through the St. Maarten Trust Fund.

During the past seven years, the Bureau has supported the implementation of projects representing investments of approximately US$350 million on behalf of the Government of St. Maarten. The projects have focused on strengthening infrastructure, public services and the country’s long-term resilience following Hurricane Irma.

Connor’s appointment as VSA Minister marks his transition from leading the country’s principal recovery-project agency to assuming responsibility for public health, social development and labor.

As Connor takes up his new role, Rueben J. Thompson will assume responsibility for the NRPB’s day-to-day operations in his capacity as Deputy Director.

Thompson joined the NRPB in 2019 and currently serves as Head of the Environmental and Social Department. He is also a member of the Bureau’s Management Team.

“The NRPB has a dedicated team and a clear mandate,” Thompson said. “I look forward to building on the work already underway as we continue implementing projects on behalf of the Government and serving the people of St. Maarten.”

The NRPB said it remains committed to supporting government in delivering recovery and resilience projects that strengthen communities, improve public services and contribute to St. Maarten’s long-term development.
