Husson and Sonneveld lead 2026 St. Maarten National Cycling Championships Road Race

GREAT BAY--Fabien Husson and Myrthe Sonneveld emerged as the leading male and female finishers in the road race at the 2026 St. Maarten National Cycling Championships, held over the weekend under the direction of the St. Maarten Cycling Federation.

The two-day championships opened on Saturday, July 18, with a 16-kilometre time trial, followed by the 60-kilometre road race on Sunday, July 19. The event brought together cyclists competing across the Elite Men, Women and Masters divisions, with national champion jerseys and cash prizes at stake.

Husson, representing JCO, claimed first place in the Elite Men’s road race with a finishing time of 1 hour, 18 minutes and 49.1 seconds. His JCO teammate Vincent Louiche finished second in 1:24:16.8, while George Kisean of ASM secured third place in 1:24:17.3.

Lance Hunt Parrotte of ASM also finished in 1:24:17.3 to place fourth, followed by independent cyclist Matthieu Chassaigne in fifth. Alfred Artsen of ASM placed sixth, Valentin Loup finished seventh and Shaun Sharpless of DFTA completed the Elite Men’s standings in eighth.

In the Women’s race, independent cyclist Myrthe Sonneveld took first place with a time of 1:41:01.5. Rolandia Lake of V.C.C. finished second in 1:47:24.9, while Murielle Lancien Paul of SXM TRI Académie placed third in 1:48:18.6.

Susan Piscione of Tri-Sport Tigers followed closely in fourth place with a time of 1:48:18.8, while teammate Rona Dhanani completed the women’s field in fifth place in 1:53:48.9.

Competition was also held across several Masters categories. Mark Maidwell of Hot Wheels won the Masters B division in 1:26:44.1. François Delaporte of SXM TRI Académie placed second, Yannick Arnoult finished third and Karl Spijker of Tri-Sport Tigers took fourth.

Wilmer Azcarate of SXM TRI Académie won the Masters A category with a time of 1:26:44.2, narrowly ahead of Otis Cotton of Tri-Sport Tigers, who finished in 1:30:12.0.

In Masters C, Dirk Lutteke claimed first place in 1:30:13.7. Heinrich Susanna of Hot Wheels finished second, followed by Jean Carty of Hot Wheels in third. Eric Helan of A.S.C.E.S.M. Cycling Club placed fourth and Clarence Panthophlet of Hot Wheels finished fifth.

The championships placed the spotlight on local and regional cycling talent while giving riders the opportunity to compete for national recognition across two demanding formats.

The St. Maarten Cycling Federation thanked the cyclists, teams, officials, volunteers, sponsors and supporters who contributed to the staging of the championships.
