GREAT BAY--The Jamaican community in St. Maarten will celebrate Jamaica’s 64th Independence Day on Sunday, August 2, 2026, with a full day of music, culture, food and family entertainment at Emilio Wilson Park.
The celebration, held under the theme “Out of Many, One People” and the slogan “One Love, One People, One Jamaica,” will begin at 9:00am and continue until late.
Organizers are inviting the public to attend and enjoy a wide range of activities, including live band performances, DJs, gospel music, reggae and cultural presentations. Authentic Jamaican food and drinks, crafts, games and other family-friendly activities will also form part of the day’s program.
A major feature of the celebration will be a domino tournament, with teams competing in pairs. The entry fee is US $50 per pair. The first-place winners will receive US $600 and a trophy, second place will receive US $250 and third place will receive US $150.
The public is also encouraged to wear Jamaica’s national colors of black, green and gold as the community comes together to celebrate the country’s rich culture, music, food and heritage.
Admission to the event is open to the public.
Vendor spaces are also available at a cost of US $100 per booth, while sponsorship opportunities remain open.
Organizers are additionally seeking volunteers to assist with the Independence Day celebration. Persons interested in becoming a volunteer can contact the organizers at 721-588-9667 or visit the Jamaica Consulate on Welgelegen Road for more information.
The organizers are encouraging families, friends and supporters of Jamaican culture to come out and be part of the celebration as St. Maarten joins Jamaicans around the world in marking the country’s 64th year of independence.
