KPSM removes hardened concrete from Sucker Garden Road

GREAT BAY--The Police Force of St. Maarten, KPSM, through its Traffic Department, carried out a road cleaning operation on Sucker Garden Road on Saturday, September 5, removing a large amount of hardened concrete that had built up on the roadway over several weeks and months.

KPSM said the accumulated concrete had developed into a serious potential hazard for road users, particularly scooter and motorcycle riders, and increased the risk of accidents.

A section of Sucker Garden Road was temporarily closed during the morning to allow workers to safely remove the hardened material and clear the roadway.

The operation was carried out with assistance from several local businesses and other stakeholders. Photos included with the release show workers clearing debris and concrete from sections of the road while traffic control measures were in place.

KPSM used the cleanup to remind contractors, businesses and others involved in construction and related activities that concrete, debris and other materials must not be allowed to accumulate on public roads or create hazards for motorists and pedestrians.

“Keeping roads clear and safe is a shared responsibility and requires the cooperation of everyone,” KPSM said.

The Police Force thanked the businesses, organizations, workers and individuals who assisted with the operation and also expressed appreciation to the public for its patience during the temporary road closure.

KPSM said a similar cleanup is expected to take place in the Oyster Pond area in the near future as part of continued efforts to address accumulated concrete and other roadway debris.

Road users are being urged to remain alert, exercise caution and report hazardous conditions on public roads when they are observed.
