MP Lewis takes Justice chair as Parliament committee leadership is finalized

GREAT BAY--Three notable changes have reshaped Parliament’s committee leadership, with MP Lyndon Lewis now serving as chair of the Committee of Justice, MP Ludmila de Weever as vice chair of that same committee, and MP Sjamira Roseburg as vice chair of the Committee of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Affairs.

Lewis’ elevation to chair of the Justice Committee gives him one of Parliament’s more prominent committee leadership posts. The Justice Committee deals with matters related to law enforcement, crime, immigration, the prison system and the wider justice chain.

De Weever’s appointment as vice chair of Justice adds to an already significant committee portfolio. She also chairs the Committee Country’s Expenditures and serves as vice chair of the Committee of Finance. With her new Justice role, de Weever now holds leadership positions on three committees.

Roseburg’s move to vice chair of the Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Affairs Committee also expands her committee leadership responsibilities. The committee covers some of the country’s most closely watched policy areas, including education, culture, youth development and sports.

Roseburg already carries one of the broader committee leadership portfolios in Parliament. She chairs the Committee of Kingdom Affairs and Interparliamentary Relations, the Committee for Constitutional Affairs and Decolonization, and the Ad Hoc Committee Integrity. She also serves as vice chair of the Ad Hoc Committee Electoral Reform.

Elsewhere, MP Viren Kotai chairs the Committee of Finance, the Committee of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunication, and the Ad Hoc Committee for the Preparation of the Construction of a New Building for Parliament.

President of Parliament Sarah Wescot-Williams chairs the Committee of Petitions, the Committee for District Councils and the Ad Hoc Committee Electoral Reform. She also serves as vice chair of the Committee for Constitutional Affairs and Decolonization.

MP Dimar Labega chairs the Committee of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Affairs and the Committee for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Husbandry. He also serves as vice chair of the TEATT Committee and the Committee of Parlatino Matters.

MP Veronica Jansen-Webster chairs the Committee of Public Health, Social Development and Labor. She also serves as vice chair of the Committees of Petitions, Country’s Expenditures, General Affairs and District Councils.

MP Christopher Wever chairs the Committee of General Affairs and serves as vice chair of the Public Health, Social Development and Labor Committee.

MP Raeyhon Peterson chairs the Committee of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure and serves as vice chair of the Ad Hoc Committee dealing with the construction of a new Parliament building.

MP Francisco Lacroes chairs the Committee of Parlatino Matters and serves as vice chair of the Ad Hoc Committee Integrity.

MP Franklin Meyers serves as vice chair of the Committee of Kingdom Affairs and Interparliamentary Relations.
