MULLET BAY--Sun Resorts on Sunday said that the company has taken note of the judgment rendered by the Court of First Instance of St. Maarten on July 7, 2026, concerning matters related to Mullet Bay.
According to the statement issued, the company said it is carefully reviewing the judgment and its legal and practical implications in consultation with its advisors. That evaluation remains ongoing and has not yet been finalized.
Sun Resorts said the judgment addresses matters that have been the subject of legal proceedings, public discussion and differing interpretations for many years. Sun Resorts recognizes the considerable public interest surrounding Mullet Bay and believes communication about the ruling should remain careful, factual and responsible while the review continues.
The company is also mindful that the ruling has raised questions within the wider community regarding public access, existing activities, property rights and the practical implications of the Court’s findings.
Sun Resorts believes these matters should be approached without speculation and with due regard for the full contents of the judgment, the applicable legal framework and the interests of all stakeholders involved.
“Mullet Bay holds an important place in the history, identity and daily life of St. Maarten, and we fully understand the strong community interest in its future,” Sun Resorts stated.
“We are pleased that the ongoing legal and public process is helping to bring greater focus to matters that have remained under discussion for many years. At the same time, Sun Resorts is continuing its review of the judgment so that its implications can be properly understood, not only by the parties directly involved, but also by the people of St. Maarten.”
Sun Resorts encourages all parties to act responsibly, refrain from unilateral action and allow the appropriate legal, governmental and administrative processes to continue.
The company believes respect for the rule of law, responsible public communication and constructive engagement are essential to avoiding further uncertainty and ensuring that the interests of the community, Government, landowners, businesses and other stakeholders are properly considered.
Sun Resorts remains committed to measured dialogue with Government, stakeholders and the wider community. The company believes transparency, mutual respect and fact-based communication will be important as its review continues and as the broader implications of the judgment are considered.
The company will continue to communicate responsibly as the review progresses and remains committed to constructive engagement concerning the future of Mullet Bay.
As previously communicated, Sun Resorts has commenced a master planning process intended to help define a future vision for the broader Mullet Bay area.
The process is being approached as a long-term planning exercise that will require meaningful stakeholder engagement and careful consideration of Mullet Bay’s environmental, cultural, social and economic significance."
