GREAT BAY--As students and educators across St. Maarten return to the classroom, TelEm Group is extending best wishes to the entire school community for a successful, inspiring and rewarding new school year, while reaffirming its longstanding commitment to supporting education through reliable digital connectivity.

For more than ten years, TelEm Group has provided free internet connectivity to more than 20 schools across St. Maarten, helping thousands of students and educators access the digital resources they need for learning, teaching and communication.

For the company, connecting schools represents more than providing a telecommunications service. TelEm considers the initiative an investment in students, educators, families and the future development of St. Maarten.

As the island’s only locally owned telecommunications provider, TelEm Group recognizes the increasingly important role reliable internet access plays in modern education. Through its corporate social responsibility initiatives, the company has for years provided free telecommunications connections to public schools, supporting access to high-quality internet services and digital tools used in today’s learning environment.

“At TelEm, giving back to our island community is at the heart of what we do,” said TelEm management. “We believe that education is one of the strongest investments we can make in the future of St. Maarten. It truly takes a village, and we are proud to play our part by connecting our schools.”

The company has also upgraded connectivity to provide faster upload speeds, allowing teachers and students to participate more effectively in remote learning, video conferencing and real-time virtual classroom environments.

Classrooms across St. Maarten are increasingly incorporating digital technologies such as interactive and virtual boards, educational videos, online learning platforms, video conferencing and global collaboration tools. For some students, school may also be the primary place where they have access to computers, tablets and other digital resources.

TelEm Group said this makes access to reliable connectivity an important part of ensuring students can participate fully in a changing educational environment.

The company’s commitment to connecting public schools dates back several years. During a major telecommunications conference held in St. Maarten, TelEm identified an opportunity to support the development of information and communication technology education by providing public schools with free internet services and computer systems to assist with the establishment and development of individual computer laboratories.

The initiative also helps reduce operational expenses for participating schools, allowing more of their available resources to remain focused on teaching, learning, student development and other educational priorities.

TelEm Group said its continued support reflects the belief that technology can serve as a powerful tool for creating opportunities, improving access to information and strengthening communities.

As a government-owned company, TelEm Group also recognizes the important role of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport in shaping St. Maarten’s educational future.

The company remains committed to working alongside the Ministry, schools, educators, youth organizations and other community partners to identify additional opportunities where telecommunications technology can contribute to education and youth development.

As the new school year begins, TelEm Group wished students, teachers, school management teams and families across St. Maarten a productive year and encouraged students to make full use of the educational opportunities available to them.
