Amplify It

Well, it seems like sports is getting its sexy back on St. Maarten once again. People are paying attention. Government officials are showing up. So the question is: why now? (Not that anyone should complain of course)
The answer is simple; noise and visibility.
The growth of sports, like anything else in this country, requires more than just funding. It needs public advocacy. It needs constant attention. It needs what some might dismiss as "noise pollution", that relentless effort to keep our athletes in the public eye through social media, traditional media, and word of mouth.
This isn’t about gimmicks. It’s about passion. Real, collective passion. It's about the public using its voice to say: our athletes matter, and so does their success. We've all seen how sports can unite entire countries, how flags wave higher and hearts beat louder when a local hero takes the field, the court, the pool, or the track. We feel it when we cheer for other Caribbean nations. That energy lives inside us, and it has to go somewhere.
If it takes a few gimmicks to draw attention, so be it. What matters is that the momentum doesn’t die. Because for the first time in a long time, we’re seeing real energy creeping back into the local sports scene. But it can’t stop at fanfare. The government, corporate sponsors, and institutions must not only maintain this energy, they must amplify it.
As for this medium, we fully intend to keep the noise going. Because the more we amplify, the more we grow. And St. Maarten’s athletes deserve nothing less.
