Behind the curated snapshots of beaches and breezy balconies lies a more complex truth: the digital nomad lifestyle, especially in a leadership role, comes with invisible weight. For Dr. Camillia R. Comeaux, DrPH, MSPH, that weight is balanced not by geography, but by faith.
โOne of the biggest challenges people donโt often talk about is the emotional and energetic toll of always being โonโ, especially when youโre in a leadership role,โ she explains. โThereโs this assumption that because youโre working from a beautiful place, everything must feel easy or light. But the truth is, the responsibilities donโt disappear just because the background is prettier.โ
Comeaux leads teams, manages cross-country projects, and stays connected to her personal life, all while navigating multiple time zones. โProfessionally, Iโm managing teams, navigating time zones, and holding space for complex, high-stakes work. Personally, Iโm still showing up for my life back home. Life is still life-ing, family things are happening, friends need support, Iโm checking in to make sure my home is being maintained and kept safe, and of course, Iโve got my sweet, gorgeous Cocker Spaniel (Clover) whoโs never far from my thoughts. Remote doesnโt mean removed. The weight of all those responsibilities travels with me.โ
For Comeaux, grounding comes from prayer and spiritual rhythm. โThereโs also the inner work that comes with this lifestyle. Youโre constantly recalibrating, finding your footing in new places, adapting your routines, and sometimes sitting with that quiet feeling of being far from everything familiar. Thatโs where my faith becomes essential. Thatโs why staying spiritually grounded is non-negotiable for me. My spiritual grounding isnโt a luxury, itโs a lifeline. I start and end my days with prayer. I journal as a way to release and recenter. And I trust that Iโm being led, not just by curiosity, but by calling.โ
She continues: โBeing in new spaces forces me to slow down and listen, not just to the people or the environment, but to God. Iโve learned to discern when to move and when to be still. That kind of spiritual rhythm helps me lead with more compassion, patience, and purpose, even when the world around me is in motion.โ
โThis isnโt just a lifestyle, itโs a faith walk. And every step I take is guided, grounded, and full of purpose.โ

Asked about the longevity of the digital nomad model, Comeaux sees transformation rather than trend.
โI donโt think weโll outgrow the digital nomad concept, I think weโre redefining it. For many of us in our 30s and 40s, this isnโt just a lifestyle choice, itโs a necessary evolution.โ
Her own path didnโt emerge from luxury, it emerged from survival. โI donโt think personally Iโll ever outgrow this lifestyle, because I didnโt choose it for the aesthetics. I chose it out of necessity, and Iโve shaped it into something that works for me. I was raised to believe that success meant stability. Get the job. Show up early. Work hard. Climb the ladder. Stay loyal. Stay long enough to earn the pension and the 401k. Thatโs the dream my parents instilled in me, security. A formula. A future. But the world we inherited looks nothing like that.โ
She names the upheaval that shaped her generationโs professional reality. โThat formula broke somewhere along the way. I came into adulthood during a time when everything shifted, economically, socially, spiritually. I've lived through recessions, student debt crises, a global pandemic, mass layoffs, a level of burnout no one prepared me for, and a complete unraveling of what โprofessional securityโ used to mean. So I had to pivot. I had to adjust expectations I never consented to letting go of, and build something new.โ
โSo I created a new one. And this is deeply personal for me. I learned to trust my instincts. I built a career that allows me to lead from anywhere, without losing myself in the process. I made peace with pivoting. I stopped waiting for someone elseโs definition of โmaking itโ and started building a life I could actually live in. Thatโs not luxury, thatโs survival that weโve turned into strategy.โ
For her, remote work is not a detour, itโs a revelation. โRemote work wasnโt a rebellion, it was a revelation. Remote work, for me, has become a pathway to resilience. It allows me to lead, to contribute, to stay rooted in my values, without sacrificing my peace, my creativity, or my personal life. I donโt see this as a trend; I see it as a reclamation. Of our time, our energy, our joy. It gave me a chance to sow intentionally, grow with grace, and thrive, on my terms.โ
And that vision, she says, is about legacy. โWe may not have the same blueprint our parents followed, but we are blueprinting something of our own. Something honest, grounded, and sustainable. This is what it means for me to Sow. Grow. Thrive. Not in spite of everything Iโve been through, but because of it.โ
Across three continents and countless connections, Dr. Camillia Comeaux continues to lead with a rare blend of boldness, faith, and intentionality. Whether sheโs facilitating a focus group from a villa or coaching team members across time zones, she is crafting a model of leadership rooted not in perfection, but in presence.
Her life is a call to pause, to pivot, and to build anew.
To sow, grow, and thrive.
